Energy companies have used 'wholesale price rises' as the standard excuse for hiking our fuel bills. Data released by OFGEM since late in 2013 reveals this to have been untrue. Finally, in 2013, NPower admitted as much in its annual report.

Bosses make a big thing about giving up their bonuses. The sight of them 'giving up' hundreds of thousands of pounds is meant to quell public anger at pay for failure. The reality is even these hundreds of thousands only make up a small fraction of these people's incomes.

A graph from the 2013 British Social Attitudes (BSA) Survey shows fewer than 1 in 10 Britons have wanted this in the 30 years since 1983. More than 90% have consistently wanted the level of tax & spend to remain the same or to increase.
